Merete Markvart

Associate Professor

My scientific activities reflect the application of a wide range of methods. I am experienced in conducting randomized clinical trials, observational studies, registry studies, questionnaire studies and laboratory experiments. The research questions I ask are based on an ambition to improve oral and general health at population level. I strive to establish interdisciplinary research collaborations to increase quality and the impact in society.

I hold a position as Head of Section & Associate Professor at the Section of Clinical Oral Microbiology at Department of Odontology, University of Copenhagen.

Current research

Current projects:

COHERE: In collaboration with leading researchers, doctors and maxillofacial surgeons, we investigate the prediction of chronic inflammation causing odontogenic infection spread. In 2020, we have initiated analyses on retrospective material. A PhD study are currently running, and a prospective multicenter case-control study will start in fall 2021.

ORION: In collaboration with researchers from the Novo Nordisk Foundation Center for Basic Metabolic Research and from the Danish Cancer Society, we have initiated a registry study aiming to determine whether oral disease in childhood predisposes to systemic disease later in life.

Irrigation: In collaboration with Professor Paul Abbots (Perth, UWA) we investigate the Effect of sodium hypochlorite on root fracture resistance of endodontically treated teeth.

PolyNeedle: Collaboration with researchers at DTU

EndoReCo: The Scandinavian Endodontic Research Group. We are researchers from the Endodontic academic environments at the universities in Copenhagen, Malmö and Gothenburg who carry out inter-regional research projects. https://www.researchgate.net/lab/EndoReCo-Helena-Fransson.
