Clinical and Translational Biofilm

Based both at Costerton Biofilm Center and at Department for Clinical Microbiology (DCM), Rigshospitalet, our research is translational, focusing on taking new anti-biofilm treatments to clinical use. This involves development of relevant models as well as a well-established clinical network.

Improved understanding of biofilm infections and host responses. To improve treatment options for these infections. The focus is chronic lung, urinary tract and wound infections as well as infective endocarditis and endovascular prosthesis infections. The research involves in vitro and in vivo model systems as well as investigations on human samples and clinical testing.

Besides the essential clinical collaboration on a daily basis on clinical microbiology advise, we have an extensive collaboration between Department of Clinical Microbiology (DCM), Rigshospitalet (RH) and CBC with Prof. Oana Ciofu, Prof. Thomas Bjarnsholt, Prof. Tim Tolker-Nielsen, Prof. Michael Givskov and Prof., MD Niels Høiby and ass. Prof. Peter Østrup Jensen.

I have clinical collaborations with several cardiologists, especially Prof., MD Henning Bundgaard (RH), Prof., MD Kasper Iversen (Herlev Hospital) and consultant Emil Fosbøl (RH). Prof., MD Ole Hyldegaard is an important collaborator within our HBOT research.

We also collaborate with Prof., MD Fin Biering-Sørensen (RH) and Prof., MD Andreas Røder (RH) on urinary tract infections. Concerning the chronic wounds, we collaborate with Prof. Magnus Ågren and consultant Klaus Kirketerp-Møller at The Copenhagen Wound Center (Bispebjerg Hospital), as well as consultant Hannah Trøstrup Petersen.

Internationally, we collaborate with associate prof Johan GC van Hasselt, Leiden University and Prof. Trond Flægstad and associate prof. Pauline Cavanagh at Tromsø University. We collaborate with the Copenhagen CF centre, and DCMs around Denmark
